Adults should have a comprehensive eye exam every 1-2 years, depending on age, risk factors, and whether they currently wear corrective lenses. Children should have their first eye exam at 6 months, then at age 3, before first grade, and every 1-2 years thereafter.

Common signs include blurred or dim vision, difficulty seeing at night, sensitivity to light and glare, seeing "halos" around lights, frequent changes in eyeglass prescription, fading or yellowing of colors, and double vision in one eye. If these symptoms interfere with daily activities, it may be time to consider surgery.

An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor (MD or DO) who specializes in eye and vision care, including performing eye surgeries and treating more complex eye conditions. An optometrist (OD) provides primary vision care including eye exams, vision correction (glasses/contacts), and treatment of some eye conditions, but doesn't perform surgery.

Your first visit will include a comprehensive eye exam that typically takes 1-2 hours. We'll review your medical history, check your vision sharpness and eye pressure, examine your eye's internal and external structures, and discuss any vision problems you're experiencing. Be sure to bring your current glasses/contacts, a list of medications, and your insurance information.
